Katie Lord… when I think of Katie, the words “kindness, genuine, and Kansas City” come to mind. Let me introduce you to her!
About Katie
Katie is kind and genuine. If you are lucky enough to meet her, you will know immediately what I mean. There are not a lot of humans that are as joyful as she is. You will also know exactly where you stand as she is not shy to share her opinion – which is one of my most favorite things about her.
Katie and Kansas City. The love this woman has for our city is remarkable and something that will leave a lasting impact on all of us. Katie’s life and passion are all about not-for-profit organizations. She has spent time working for nonprofits as well as doing consulting work with nonprofits. I think she will always be in the sector in some capacity as she just eats, sleeps, and breathes supporting organizations with powerful missions.
Big Brothers Big Sisters
Currently, Katie works for Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Kansas City. I joined her women’s group last year and have loved meeting and getting to know more women in Kansas City. The purpose of the group is to provide women an opportunity to support mentorship and the mission of BBBS while not having to commit to being a big brother or sister if they’re unable.
We attend events and learn about the mission of BBBS, we provide our time and expertise to help Big and Little sisters and their parents, and we treasure the relationships we are building together as we try to make an impact! Each quarter there are social events like an Oktoberfest Wine tasting or Derby hat-making party, a service project such as delivering flowers to single moms on Mother’s Day or providing a parents’ night out. We also help through our financial support.
If you don’t have someone like Katie in your personal or professional life, it’s time to find that person. Whether that is through a nonprofit organization, a peer advisory group or a social gathering of like minded people, having a group to belong to is important for all of us. I am so glad that I decided to join Katie’s group of women who are making a difference!
